WIL Talk: From Obstacles to Assets

None of us are immune to the obstacles of life, which come in many shapes and forms. Quite often we are unaware of the challenges others face, even when they are similar to our own. More of us than we might think struggle with physical, mental or learning disabilities. Whether you yourself or someone you know is affected, be it your friend, boss or co-worker, we can all learn from each other's experiences jumping over these hurdles. In fact, the term 'disability' can be misleading. More often than not, it disregards that while individuals face their own challenges, they hold strengths that help them find a different path, overcome these obstacles and thrive. In this talk, several different obstacles will be discussed from different perspectives. Questions about how to deal with different abilities and challenges in the workforce or while getting an education will be posed. We hope to shed a positive picture of overcoming obstacles and making them assets.
